A couple Haikus

grassI’m taking two online creative writing classes. In one, this week’s lesson is about noticing and writing what we see in nature.  God knows I’m no Thoreau, who is, but I do regularly notice the natural world.

The assignment was to take a “Haiku hike” where we walk outside and jot down what we see in nature that stirs our senses. With really crappy sleep last night I was too sleepy to be sufficiently stirred, so I just sat in my backyard wooden Adirondack chair and noticed what was in front me, which was grass, the sun and wind.

Morning sun

9 am lit grass,

Awaiting the sun’s blanket,

Wind stirs blades awake.

Florida winter

Disguised winter day,

Florida forgets cold air,

Cool wind jolts memory.
